The chair of Institute of Applied Science and Technology of Jahad Daneshgahi Mashhad stated that the Innovation Center of this institute has attained a license to operate in the field of tourism.
As reported by the website of Institute of Applied Science and Technology of Jahad Daneshgahi Mashhad, in the last judging round of Ruydade Shetab (startups) in the field of souvenirs and handicrafts, Ahmad Afroughi mentioned the holding of the second Ruydade Shetab in the field of tourism and handicrafts by this institute in less than 4 months, stressing its impact on the creation and development of ideas. “The Institute of Applied Science and Technology of Jahad Daneshgahi Mashhad had cogent reasons to pursue this subject.” He added, “The first reason is that the Innovation Center of Institute of Applied Science and Technology of Jahad Daneshgahi has managed to obtain a license in the field of tourism and the importance of souvenirs and handicrafts as an integral part of tourism cannot be overstated. Moreover, “shopping” is one of the most entertaining activities for tourists, as the massive number of tourists traveling to Mashhad each year has urged many businesses to focus on the production of souvenirs and handicrafts,”
“It seems that small and medium-sized businesses operating in the field of souvenirs and handicrafts cannot hold a candle to other players, especially Chinese companies, in this highly competitive market and organizing these events can help bridge this gap.” Afroughi noted. “Another reason is that in general, souvenirs and handicrafts in our country have rarely been the subject of specialized attention, and considering the high profits of this industry for companies working in the field of handicrafts and souvenirs, it is essential to dedicate more attention to innovation and creativity in the field of design, packaging, branding and marketing”.
The chair of Institute of Applied Science and Technology of Jahad Daneshgahi, also stated that another rationale for the selection of this topic is that Khorasan Razavi Jihad-e-Daneshgahi Organization places a premium on the subject of tourism. “Khorasan Razavi Jihad-e-Daneshgahi Organization launched tourism research institute on 2010 with three main research groups in the field of “Tourism Economics”, “Tourism Sociology” and “Tourism Management and Planning”. He noted. “At present, a host of specialized scientific productions and tourism research in the province and even in the Iran are made by the tourism research institute of Khorasan Razavi Jihad-e Daneshgahi Organization so that the majority of upstream documents of the province in the field of tourism have been produced by the faculty members of this research center.”
He also noted that this organization sees specialized tourism services as a great business opportunity. “Khorasan Razavi Jihad-Daneshgahi Organization has managed to acquire a license to hold a short-term specialized training course in tourism and even to organize scientific tourism tours for the technical managers of agencies as a prerequisite of their license-issuance process”. Afroughi added. “In the field of tourism education, Institute of Applied Science and Technology of Jahad Daneshgahi has been holding academic courses in tourism and since 2012 more than 500 students have been graduated in this major. Currently, over 200 students are studying in associate degree and bachelor’ degree programs offered at this institute”.
In the end, he stated, “I hope we have played even a small part in raising the level of creativity, innovation and ultimately the prosperity of the souvenir and handicraft industry.”
